One of the most popular places of interest is the famous pine forest, named Pefkias. “The green shore of our country” as it is called by the poet Kostas Karyotakis. Its beauty was also celebrated by another really important Greek poet, Angelos Sikelianos, whose residence was in the area.
The church of Saint Vlasios, a monument of Byzantine architecture and art with murals created by Kontoglou, a famous Greek artist dominates the central square.
In just a half hour by car you can be on the mountain of Zireia (Killini), visit the traditional mountain village Trikala, and wander through the canyon of Flabouritsa.
Five kilometers from the city and between Kamari and Loutro you will find one of the most beautiful gorges in Greece, Fonisa (murderess).
Pefkias Forest
Walking through Pefkias, you will discover the residence of Angelos Sikelianos.
With the beautiful picturesque pine forest ideal for those who love hiking, running and tennis that expands along a splendid pebbled beach giving the opportunity of leisure and fun to the organized beach bars close to the waves.
Here you can find a quiet place to enjoy swimming or if you prefer something more intense you can chose one of the beach bars.
Traffic Education Park
The Traffic Education Park of the Municipality of Xylokastro-Evrostini is the only thematic park dedicated to traffic education in Northern Peloponnese. It is located in the Marina of Xylokastro, within the specially designed “Wooden Park” for Sports, Recreation, and Education, which was inaugurated in 2002.
